The world is round so that friendship may encircle it.
Fr Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881 - 1955) was a French Jesuit priest trained as a paleontologist and a philosopher, and was present at the discovery of Peking Man.
He saw Evolution as a cosmic process rising from the birth of the universe in ever increasing complexity through matter, life, and thence to humankind with its unique capacity for self-reflection.
As a scientist, Teilhard's vision anticipated what we now know as Systems Theory applied to the cosmos, Holism, Complexity Theory, and Emergence Theory.
His vision of an evolving, thinking and feeling global humanity is being realized by the growth of global institutions and communications like the World Wide Web.
He made essential contributions to the concept of a Biocentric Culture (see Vital Unconscious and Biocentric Principle).
Alfred Russel Wallace: naturalist, geographer, anthropologist and biologist who (independently of Charles Darwin proposed a theory of Natural Selection
Charles Darwin: an English Naturalist, who realised and demonstrated that all species of life have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process he called Natural Selection.
Ernst Mayr: one of the 20th century's leading evolutionary biologists, also a renowned taxonomist, tropical explorer, ornithologist, historian of science, and naturalist.
Fritjof Capra: a physicist who has done research on Particle Physics and Systems Theory.
Jacques Monod: biologist and esteemed writer on the philosophy of science, saw Evolution as a strict sequence of chance (random Mutations) and necessity (of survival).
Murray Gell-Mann: physicist who received the 1969 Nobel Prize in physics for his work on the theory of Elementary Particles, he also proposed the Quark Model in it's modern form.
